Ankle Sprains Ankle sprains are caused by an unnatural twisting or force on the ankle bones of the foot, often resulting in one or more ligaments on the outside of the ankle to be stretched or torn. If not properly treated, ankle sprains could develop into long-term problems.

Bunions
Bunions are misaligned big toe joints that can become swollen and tender, causing the first joint of the big toe to slant outward, and the second joint to angle toward the other toes.

Flat Feet
Flat feet are a common condition. In infants and toddlers, the longitudinal arch is not developed and flat feet are normal. The arch develops in childhood, and by adulthood, most people have developed normal arches.

Hammertoes
Hammertoe is a deformity of the second, third or fourth toes. In this condition, the toe is bent at the middle joint, resembling a hammer. Left untreated, hammertoes can become inflexible and require surgery.

Diabetes and Your Feet
With a diabetic foot, a wound as small as a blister from wearing a shoe that's too tight can cause a lot of damage. Diabetes decreases blood flow, so injuries are slow to heal.

Heel Spurs
Plantar fasciitis (or heel pain) is commonly traced to an inflammation on the bottom of the foot. Our practice can evaluate arch pain, and may prescribe customized shoe inserts called orthoses to help alleviate the pain.  Our office is equipped with the most advanced SHOCKWAVE THERAPY available.  This is used in chronic cases of planter fasciitis where conservative treatment was not effective.

Corns
Corns and calluses are protective layers of compacted, dead skin cells. They are caused by repeated friction from skin rubbing against bony areas or against an irregularity in a shoe. Corns ordinarily form on the toes and calluses on the soles of the feet.

Athlete's Foot
A chronic infection caused by various types of fungus, Athlete's foot is often spread in places where people go barefoot such as public showers or swimming pools.

WHAT SETS US APART

Academy Foot and Orthotic Clinics is owned and operated by Dr. John A. Hardy, D.C., a retired Toronto Chiropractor.  Because of this our clinic believes in the philosophy of preventative and conservative care whenever possible and treating the body as a whole.  We believe that structure governs function and avoid medications and surgery whenever possible.  Our foot clinic would never, ever under any circumstances consider cosmetic foot surgery or surgery where there is no pain or loss of function.

One of my Foot Clinic's Chiropodists was the first licensed Toronto Chiropodist /  Foot Specialist in Canada to be certified in A.R.T. (Active Release Technique) for the lower limb.  We presently have tenToronto Chiropodists on staff as well as Dr. John A. Hardy.  Shannon Hardy, our lovely daughter has recently graduated as a Podiatrist from Queensland Institute of Technology University in Brisbane, Australia.   In our office we have staff who can provide services in English, Polish, French and Cantonese.

Our foot clinic is located less than 100 yards from the Broadview Subway, which is at the southwest corner of Broadview Avenue and Danforth Avenue.  (Bloor Street and the Don Valley Parkway).

Our foot clinic provides computerized Painless injections as well as the latest technology in Shockwave therapy.  We also provide computerized 3D computer laser scanning for our orthotic patients.  We have just recently purchased a YAG laser for the treatment of fungal toenails as well as computerized diagnostic nerve conduction device for the early detection of diabetes and neuropathies.  We just purchased 4 Dermlite's DL3 which is the tool of choice for the world’s leading Dermatologist for the detection of malignant melanoma. All our staff has been trained in current heart and stokes foundation standards of CPR.  We've recently acquired a public access defibrillator for our clinic and all our staff have been trained to use this model in the event of an emergency.  Although, we hope to never use it!
