According to Robert Grondin, DPM, "It is estimated that approximately one million patient visits per year are due to plantar fasciitis. Plantar fasciitis accounts for about 10% of runner-related injuries and 11-15% of all foot symptoms requiring professional care. It is thought to occur in 10% of the general population as well."

"I recommend seeking care from a podiatrist if you have suspected plantar fasciitis or pain in general in the foot and ankle. However, there are three things you can do yourself at home to help treat the condition: 1) Wear supportive shoes and inserts 2) Stretch the lower leg muscles, and 3) Reduce inflammation. Various ways in which you can reduce inflammation include rest, ice, NSAIDs (Advil, Aleve, etc.), and topicals (Voltaren gel, Biofreeze, etc.)," says Dr. Grondin.
