SMARTPHONE APP DIAGNOSIS FRACTURES WITHOUT X-RAYS

A smartphone app to diagnose fractures? That's the premise of a new product under development at Maine startup, ScanDx. After a three-year R&D effort, ScanDx presented its first clinical research abstract at the World Congress of Podiatry in Montreal. This abstract highlighted the accuracy of its product, FractureDx, at diagnosing bone fractures without the use of x-rays. The smartphone-based prototype demonstrated 100% accuracy when compared to plain film x-rays of documented foot and ankle fractures.

"We were gratified to have our abstract accepted to this prestigious meeting," noted ScanDx CEO Todd O'Brien, DPM. "Many of the attendees recognized the potential impact of the technology. This was especially apparent in the younger physicians and students who appreciated the mobility, low cost, and inherent safety of the system."
