IL PODIATRIST PROVIDES COLD WEATHER TIPS

It's Winter, but even for quick trips to the store or gas station, it’s important to protect your feet, says Nicholas Tabor III, DPM, a podiatrist with offices in La Salle and Ottawa. “This time of year, as weather gets cold, the air dries out and their skin cracks. Moisturize your feet with a good moisturizer or cream and use a good humidifier in the house.”

“Use good quality socks that wick the moisture away,” said Dr. Tabor. He said people who work outside, or people with circulatory issues, may want to put a silk liner on under good socks, such as some of the synthetic blends, wool blends, or Smartwool. “You’re going to pay for it, but it’s worth it.” Cotton socks, on the other hand, keep moisture near the skin and dry quite slowly. When socks and shoes get wet, change them.
