DR. HARDY, OWNER OF ACADEMY FOOT AND ORTHOTIC CLINICS SHARES AN INTERESTING PATIENT STORY

DR. HARDY STARTED PRACTICE IN 1980 AND SAW 10'S OF THOUSANDS OF PATIENTS AND THUS HAS QUITE AN ENCYCLOPEDIA OF INTERESTING STORIES.  I WOULD LIKE TO SHARE AN STORY ON A PATIENT NAMED 'FRED' WHO WAS IN HIS LATE 60'S.

HE CONSULTED ME REGARDING AN ARTHRITIC KNEE.  WE X-RAYED HIM AND CONFIRMED MY DIAGNOSIS AND STARTED TREATMENT.  THINGS SEEMED TO BE GOING WELL UNTIL 'FRED' WAS MISSING IN ACTION.  I HAD MY RECEPTIONIST PHONE HIM AS WE HAD MISSED HIM AT HIS CONFIRMED APPOINTMENT.  HE STATED THAT HE WAS NOT COMING BACK AS HIS DOCTOR HAD TOLD HIM IT WOULDN'T MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE AND HIS KNEES ONLY PROBLEM WAS 'OLD AGE.'

I PERSONALLY PHONES HIM AND HE TOLD ME WHEN HE CONSULTED HIS DOCTOR HE WAS TOLD IT WAS JUST 'OLD AGE.' I THEN ASKED HOW OLD HIS OTHER KNEE WAS THAT WAS PAIN FREE.  I TOLD HIM BOTH HIS KNEES WERE THE SAME AGE AND ONLY ONE WAS TROUBLING HIM AND NEEDED ATTENTION, TO WHICH HE AGREED AND MADE SENSE.  WE TREATED FRED AS WELL AS EDUCATING HIM IN HOME CARE, EXERCISES, ETC. AND FRED BECAME PAIN FREE AND 'HAPPY.'
