DR. HARDY DISCUSSES SUNSCREEN AND YOUR FEET

AS I HAPPEN TO BE IN SUNNY CANCUN TODAY I AM VERY AWARE HOW IMPORTANT THE APPLICATION OF SUNSCREEN IS, ESPECIALLY IF I WANT TO HAVE A PLEASANT VACATION.  SUNBURNS ARE NO FUN AND ARE ALSO DANGEROUS.  AS WARMER WEATHER IS IN THE AIR FOR TORONTO IT IS IMPORTANT TO THINK OF THE USE OF SUNSCREEN AS WE BEGIN TO EXPOSE MORE SKIN TO THE SUNLIGHT.  ONE AREA THAT IS MANY TIMES OVERLOOKED ARE YOUR FEET, ESPECIALLY IN FEMALES WHO TEND TO BE EXPOSED MORE OF THEIR FEET IN THEIR FOOT WEAR THAN MEN.

MALIGNANT MELANOMA IS MORE PREVALENT IN THE FOOT THAN MANY PEOPLE ARE AWARE OF.  IT IS FOR THAT REASON THAT YOU SHOULD TAKE THAT EXTRA TIME AND MAKE SURE THAT THE EXPOSED PARTS OF YOUR FEET ARE PROTECTED BY USING A SUNSCREEN WITH AT LEAST A 30 SPF RATING.

IT IS NICE TO BE IN THE WARM SUN BUT MAKE SURE THAT YOU TAKE PRECAUTIONS.  MY DAUGHTER IS STUDYING TO BE A PODIATRIST IN AUSTRALIA.  THIS IS THE COUNTRY THAT HAS THE HIGHEST INCIDENCE OF SKIN CANCER, PARTICULARLY MALIGNANT MELANOMA.
