DAIRY PRODUCTS HIGH IN SATURATED FATS MAY PROTECT FORM DIABETES

ACCORDING TO A STUDY FROM CAMBRIDGE UNIVERSITY AND THE MEDICAL RESEARCH COUNCIL WHICH STUDIED THE DIETS OF MORE THAN 340,000 PEOPLE TO SEE IF THERE WAS A LINK BETWEEN SATURATED FAT AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF DIABETES,  THE STUDY FOUND THAT RED MEATS, FRIED FOOD, ALCOHOL AND CARBOHYDRATES INCREASED THE RISK OF TYPE 2 DIABETES WHILE DAIRY PRODUCTS SEEMED TO PROTECT AGAINST THE DISEASE.

FATTY ACIDS WITH ODD NUMBERS OF CARBON ATOMS, 15 AND 17 WHICH ARE ASSOCIATED WITH DAIRY PRODUCTS SUCH AS YOGURT,CHEESE AND MILK HAVE A PROTECTIVE FACTOR WHILE THOSE WITH EVEN NUMBERS OF CARBON ATOMS SUCH AS 14, 16 AND 18 ARE ASSOCIATED WITH A HIGHER RISK OF THE DISEASE.
