Doctors say they're seeing more patients, mostly women, with foot pain caused by a summer season spent in flip-flops. One local doctor says the wrong shoes can cause injuries because they don't provide enough support. "Your foot is your foundation. So if your ligaments and tendons are not firm and not holding you, then the shoe and your sock is your foundation to help your body, your knees, your hips, and everything to work better. So, if we don't have support, you're kind of like the beautiful homes in California on mudslides. You end up with foot pain, knee pain, and back pain; but you don't always attribute that to your feet," said Dr. Mary White, podiatrist.

Dr. White says cheaper sandals will only last a season but will have lasting damage. She says a pair that costs a little more money will last longer and have better support for your feet.
