REPLACE RUNNING SHOES EVERY 6 MONTHS

Area podiatrists warn that ill-fitting or worn-out shoes could cause soreness or injury to feet. With winter a seeming distant memory and summer officially launching Friday, people are trying to get firm, stay fit, lose weight, stop smoking, and eat less, said Dr. Jeffrey Schneider, a podiatrist in Florence. “These programs often involve jogging, walking, hiking, playing ball sports,” Schneider said. “In doing so, each of these activities should be accompanied by appropriate footwear.

“The appropriate footwear protects your feet from becoming injured or can help from forming different foot deformities.” “I find, personally speaking, that one needs to change out running shoes probably every six months,” Schneider said. “By the time six months comes around, the shoe is worn and your foot has returned to the old, harmful biomechanics that create the problems.”
