WEAR HIGH HEEL SHOES IN MODERATION

Dr. Gideon Lewis, a foot and ankle surgeons in Winter Park, said to treat high heels like candy: everything in moderation. "If you are wearing high heels, they should be the same height and length," Lewis said, noting that the angle of the shoe is also important when it comes to foot health.

If a shoe has a very high and elevated angle, Lewis said, all of the force is being put on the forefoot, which could lead to possible stress fractures or neuroma. A neuroma is inflammation of the nerve and can be debilitating. It's also wise to avoid long walks on soft surfaces, like the beach, if your muscles aren't used to walking in that type of environment, Lewis said.
