DR. HARDY HAS TAUGHT ALL OF HIS EMPLOYEES AT ACADEMY FOOT AND ORTHOTIC CLINICS TO 'LLL', WHICH MEANS TO 'LATHER LOVE LAVISHLY' TO EVERYONE WE MEET, ESPECIALLY OUR BELOVED PATIENTS.

I LEARNED THE 'LOVE CONCEPT' WHILE ATTENDING SEMINARS PUT ON BY DOCTOR JIM PARKER.  HE WAS ONE OF THE MOST SUCCESSFUL CHIROPRACTORS IN THE WORLD AND SHARED HIS PRACTICE SECRETS WITH THOUSANDS OF OTHERS.  I REMEMBER BEING AT HIS 300TH SEMINAR WITH OVER 10,000 OTHER DOCTORS.  WE USED TO HAVE SPEAKERS SUCH AS RONALD REAGAN, BOB HOPE, GERRY BROWN, ETC.  HE TAUGHT US TO LOVE ALL OF OUR PATIENTS EVEN IF WE LOVED SOME MORE THAN OTHERS.  EVERY PROCEDURE THAT WAS PERFORMED WAS TO MAKE THE PATIENT'S VISIT AS PLEASURABLE, EFFICIENT AND SUCCESSFUL AS POSSIBLE.  

AN EFFICIENT, PLEASANT, COOPERATIVE FRONT DESK IS THE MOST IMPORTANT ASSET ANY SUCCESSFUL DOCTOR'S PRACTICE CAN HAVE.  IF THE PATIENT DOES NOT MAKE IT PAST THE INITIAL OFFICE PHONE CALL OR IS NOT HAPPY WITH THEIR EXPERIENCE WITH THE RECEPTIONIST, THAN WHATEVER THE CHIROPODIST DOES IS NEALRY LOST.

 I SPEND A LOT OF TIME AND RESOURCES TRAINING AND MAINTAINING OUR STAFF'S EFFICIENCY WITH THE NUMBER ONE EMPHASIS ON PATIENT SATISFACTION.  WE HAVE COMPILED A DETAIL STAFF MANUAL FROM SCRATCH WHICH IS CONSTANTLY EVOLVING AS WELL AS MONTHLY STAFF MEETINGS WHERE WE GO OVER PROCEDURES SUCH AS ANSWERING THE TELEPHONE PROPERLY AND OTHER SCRIPTS.  BEFORE ANY MEMBER OF OUR STAFF ANSWERS THE PHONE I HAVE THEM TAKE A SECOND FIRST IN ORDER TO SMILE FIRST.  IT CHANGES YOUR WHOLE INFLECTION A TONE OF YOUR VOICE AND PATIENTS CAN SENSE THAT.  VERY IMPORTANT.  I HAVE NUMEROUS THOUGHTS OF THE DAY WHICH I EMAIL TO EACH OF OUR STAFF MEMBERS WHICH GOES OVER A PROCEDURE WHICH WE MAY BE NEGLECTING OR COULD USE SOME BRUSHING-UP ON.  

WE HAVE A TREE IN MY BACK PARKING LOT WHICH IS OUR CLINIC'S PROBLEM TREE.  EACH MORNING AS EACH STAFF MEMBER ARRIVES FOR WORK THEY HANG THEIR PROBLEMS ON THE TREE.  WHEN THEY ARE AT WORK WE DO NOT DISCUSS ANY OF OUR PERSONAL PROBLEMS WITH PATIENTS OR OTHER STAFF MEMBERS.  EVERY ONE HAS PROBLEMS BUT OUR PATIENTS DO WANT TO HEAR THIS AS IT IS NEGATIVE ENERGY.  EVEN WHEN WE HAVE A PATIENT WHO IS CRYING THE BLUES WE TRY TO SHOW EMPATHY THEN TRY TO CHANGE THE CHANNEL TO MORE POSITIVE THOUGHT.  NEGATIVE THOUGHTS AND FEELINGS IMPEDE THE HEALING PROCESS AND WE TRY TO AVOID THAT.  THEN AT THE END OF THE DAY WE PICK UP OUR PROBLEMS FROM THE PROBLEM TREE TRY AND GO ABOUT OUR LIVES AWAY FROM THE CLINIC.

I ALSO INVEST TIME AND MONEY IN SENDING OUR STAFF TO SEVERAL SEMINARS AND COURSES THROUGHOUT EACH YEAR TO MAINTAIN AND IMPROVE ALL MEMBERS OF THE TEAMS KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS.  REMEMBER WHEN YOU ARE GREEN, YOU GROW.  WHEN YOU ARE RIPE, YOU ROT.  ALWAYS STAY GREEN.  

WE ALSO HAVE SEVERAL IN HOUSE BONUSES FOR SUPPORT STAFF TO ENCOURAGE THEM TO MEET THEIR GOALS AND WANT TO IMPROVE.  LAST YEAR EACH MEMBER RECEIVED NEW IPADS, IPHONES AND ONE MEMBER RECEIVED 2 TICKETS ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD AND SHE CHOSE JAPAN.  I HAVE LEARNED ONE IMPORTANT THING THROUGHOUT MY 34 YEARS IN PRACTICE THAT INVESTING IN YOUR PRACTICE AND STAFF DOES NOT COST, IT PAYS IN DIVIDENDS SEVERAL FOLD.  WE TRY TO MAKE IT FUN TO WORK AT MY FOOT CLINIC BECAUSE IF YOU NOT ENJOYING WHAT YOU ARE DOING, WHAT GOOD IS IT.  WE ARE VERY HAPPY WITH OUR LIFE AND PRACTICE AND WE TRY TO SHARE AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE.  DR. JIM USED TO SAY 'A CANDLE WHEN LIT, LOSES NOTHING BY LIGHTING ANOTHER.  

THERE WILL ALWAYS BE SOME ROADBLOCKS ALONG THE WAY AND THE ONLY ONES WE HAVE ENCOUNTER THUS FAR IS FROM JEALOUS COLLEAGUES WHO INSIST ON PLACING PETTY COMPLAINTS AGAINST US T O OUR COLLEGE.  IN ALL MY YEARS AS A CHIROPRACTOR, WE DID NOT PLACE COMPLAINTS AGAINST ONE ANOTER.  THE COLLEGE'S SUPPOSED PURPOSE IS TO PROTECT THE PUBLIC, NOT FOR PETTY INFIGHTING.  ANYWAY I WILL DEAL WITH THIS SITUATION AND NOT LET THE NEGATIVE FEW DETER THE POSITIVE MANY.
