TORONTO FOOT SPECIALIST SHARES SOME SUMMER FOOT CARE TIPS

Podiatrist, Dr. Michelle McCarroll states, "summer is the season for letting loose, flip-flops and walking in the grass or sand. But there are some things you need to do to keep your feet healthy and looking their best. While it may be tempting.  I recommend against walking barefoot because of the risks of stepping on something like glass or a wood splinter and injuring your feet.  Going barefoot also means an increased risk of getting athlete’s foot or plantar warts, which are acquired by direct contact with the skin.  Wear properly fitted shoes or Vionic sandals to help avoid heel and arch pain. Make sure to thoroughly clean and dry between toes, too, to avoid athlete’s foot fungus, which can spread from the skin into the nails and leads to fungal nails."

At our Toronto foot clinic, Academy Foot and Orthotic Clinics we see an increase in foot injuries during the summer months due to the wearing of sandals, flip-flops and open toed shoes. Every Chiropodist employed at our clinic spends a lot of time educating our patients in the proper foot wear and care of their feet.
