  • TORONTO CHIROPODIST STATES THAT PEDIATRIC FLATFOOT CAN BE A CAUSE FOR ALARM

PARENTS SHOULD BE AWARE OF THE SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF FALLEN ARCHES.  THAT IS WHY WE RECOMMEND TO OUR PATIENTS THAT THEY BRING THEIR CHILDREN IN FOR A CHECKUP AT 2 1/2 TO THREE YEARS OLD.  IF THE CHILD IS ALLOWED TO DEVELOP WITH A SIGNIFICANT POSTURAL DEFECT DUE TO FALLEN ARCHES, THE EFFECTS CAN BE FAR REACHING AND EFFECT NOT ONLY THEIR GAIT, BUT THE DEVELOPMENT OF THEIR ANKLE, KNEE AND HIP.  IF LEFT UNTREATED IT CAN LEAD TO PERMANENT DEFORMITY.  FLATFOOT DEFORMITY MAKES MOBILITY AND EXERCISE PAINFUL AND INCREASES THE RISK OF CARDIOVASCULAR HEALTH AND OBESITY.  USUALLY THIS CONDITION CAN BE CORRECTED WITH ORTHOTICS AND ONLY IN VERY FEW CASES IS SURGICAL INTERVENTION NECESSARY.

BROUGHT TO YOU BY DR. JOHN A HARDY, OWNER OF ACADEMY FOOT AND ORTHOTIC CLINICS.
