TIS THE SEASON FOR POST FLIP FLOP PLANTAR FASCIITIS

They’re flimsy and often filthy, but their owners are hard pressed to give them up even when summer is over. Flip-flops are a podiatrist’s worst nightmare, according to Dr. Karen Rouw, a podiatrist at Central Minnesota Foot & Ankle in St. Cloud. “They’re popular because they’re easy to put on, and they’re inexpensive, which is a big deal for a lot of people,” she said.

Rouw said she sees a lot of patients with plantar fasciitis (or heel pain), especially at the end of summer and before back-to-school time. “I can count on it towards the end of summer,” she said. “There are plenty of people with the symptoms — more so than any other time of the year.”
