  • Secret, Year-long Broken Foot For Sochi Olympic Women’s Hockey Star Revealed

The broken foot that Hayley Wickenheiser revealed during the Hockey Hall of Fame shocked everyone. She’d helped Canada in the gold medal at the Sochi Olympics and had been sporting a broken foot the entire time.

Wickenheiser has said she had thought to keep the secret to herself but she was a guest speaker at a hockey summit and was spotted with a walking boot. ''I'm wearing this boot so I can avoid having that surgery, hopefully. I knew it was broken at the time (of Olympics). We just found out it was a little more serious break than we thought. It was just managing the pain.''

The thirty-five year-old women’s hockey star was able to mask her pain and broken foot, hiding her injury so well that she and the Canadian team rallied 3-2 in an overtime victory over the U.S. 'It's kind of perfect timing to rest the foot and just be able to get healthy again,'' she said.

A broken foot can happen to anyone. Fortunately, chiropodist Marz Hardy of Academy Foot and Orthotic Clinics, can help. Marz Hardy can work with you towards rehabilitating that broken foot and get you back on your feet.

Broken Foot Causes, Symptoms, and Treatment

A broken foot is caused by one of the bones in the foot ‘breaking’, or fracturing. Bones typically break when the bone is bended, crushed, or stretched beyond its natural capabilities. Usually the location of the fracture indicates how the break occurred, whether it was through an object, fall, or any other type of injury.

Common Symptoms of Broken Feet:

· Bruising
· Pain
· Redness
· Swelling
· Blue (foot)
· Numbness
· Cold
· Misshapen
· Cuts
· Deformities

Those who are experiencing any of these symptoms, or suspect that they have a broken foot, should seek medical attention in a center where x-rays can be performed. This is especially urgent if any of the symptoms include numbness, blue coloring, cold feet, cuts, misshapen toes or deformities as these indicate more severe cases.
