PROTECTIVE FOOTWEAR A MUST IN COLD WEATHER STATES IL PODIATRIST

Not everyone remembers to take care of their feet in winter, and sometimes on warmer winter days (15-25 degrees), people fail to protect their feet altogether. “I have people come in at times in the Crocs, with the air holes in them,” said Leonard Kuzmicki, DPM. “Dress for the weather.”

Dr. Kuzmicki also sees people who wear sandals in winter and say the cold doesn’t bother them, and then when they put their feet up for him to see, he notices signs of cold-related problems. He has seen women who complain of foot pain and sore, red toes and then arrive in thin, ballet slipper-like flats. Or he’ll see people who wear boots with holes or cracks in them, or worn soles, which can cause them to slip and fall, in addition to increasing the odds of their feet getting wet and cold.
