PODIATRIST STATES THAT PROLONGED STANDING ALSO PRESENTS RISKS

Podiatrist, Dr. Krista Archer states, "research shows that being sedentary is bad for you. If you’re chair-bound for more than 23 hours a week, you can be 64 percent more likely to develop heart disease. Sitting may raise blood pressure and blood sugar levels. And it places you at risk for various cancers. But there are also risks of prolonged standing.  The main worry with prolonged standing is overuse injuries, including tendinitis, inflammation, and muscle spasm.  Wear sneakers with orthotics.  Walking keeps the blood circulating.”

Dr. John A. Hardy, a retired Chiropractor and owner of Academy Foot and Orthotic Clinics knows that sitting is more stressful on your lower spine than standing. The intra-discal pressure is increased by 50% in L4-5 sitting as opposed to standing.  All of the 4 Foot Specialists employed at my Toronto Foot Clinic advocate a healthy lifestyle which includes regular exercise, diet, etc.
