PODIATRIST STATES THAT BUNION SURGERY SHOULD ONLY BE DONE AFTER FAILED TREATMENTS

Podiatrist Dr. Mehmet Oz recently had special guest podiatrist Crystal Holmes, DPM on his show. She told viewers that bunion surgery should not be performed just because someone does not like the physical appearance of the foot due to bunions.

Dr. Holmes states, " that when bunion surgery is decided upon, it should only be done after conventional bunion treatment methods have been tried to relieve the pain that can come from bunions. If you can’t take it [the pain] anymore, that’s when surgery should be discussed with your doctor.”

Academy Foot and Orthotic Clinics practices preventative and conservative foot care at all times.  This means that we avoid the use of drugs and surgery whenever possible.  Many bunions surgeries are unnecessary and can be avoided with conservative treatment.  Dr. Hardy's Toronto Foot clinic is fully equipped to treat most conditions with conservative care.  The only surgical procedure that we ever perform is ingrown nail surgery when necessary.

Dr. Hardy Started practice in 1980 and has only had to refer a handful of patients for surgery.  Most bunion surgery is performed on women for cosmetic reason only.  Never, ever consider bunion surgery on a asymptomatic joint ever.  There is no drug, mediciation or surgical procedure which does not carry with it some risk, in some cases life threatening.
