"Walking barefoot is not good for most people. You need that support (that shoes provide). Some people can and have no problem, but for a lot of people it can aggravate their plantar fasciitis, say Joyce Patouhas, DPM, the immediate past president of the Michigan Podiatric Medical Association and a podiatrist at Mission Podiatry in Clinton Township.

Dr. Joyce Patouhas

"It's not good to go barefoot outside. You can step on glass. You can step on something and cause injury. If you're comfortable inside the house and you have no foot pain, it's okay," says Dr. Patouhas.
