Podiatrist, Dr. Joseph Difrrancesca, a Norwich podiatrist who treats many athletes with turf toe states, "turf toe usually involves an activity on a firm surface, and is most common in football. The recent popularity of using artificial turf over natural turf is part of the reason for the rise in cases. A force applied to the calf muscle while the knee is flexed is another cause of turf toe.  The injury is primarily mechanical in nature and so is the treatment. Putting the foot in a more rigid shoe or an orthotic device will avoid further injury.  He also thinks careful selection of athletic shoes with a rigid shank will reduce injury rates."

Academy Clinics has had a special interest in custom orthotics since 1980 and only deals with high quality labs to produce a high quality custom orthotic for our patients.  So far we have had great success in treating many biomechanical issues of the human frame with custom orthotics such as foot, ankle, knee, hip, pelvic and spinal conditions.

If you or a loved one requires honest, competent advice or quality foot care and custom orthotics, please do not hesitate to contact us at 416-465-8737.
