PODIATRIST DISCUSSES DIABETIC PERIPHERAL NEUROPATHY
posted: Dec. 17, 2019.
Podiatrist Aaron Solomon, DPM says, "I always tell my diabetic patients that nothing is too small. A corn or callus sounds simple and trivial, but it can turn into something much more severe. Come into the office. Let's take a look at it."

"With diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN), the [high blood] sugar damages the nervous system and then there's a loss of protective sensation. So if a diabetic develops a corn or callus, they may not feel it. As the callus builds up, there is a breakdown of the skin that eventually leads to an infection."
