MOST FOOT SPECIALISTS, INCLUDING FOOT DOCTORS, CHIROPODISTS AND PODIATRISTS AGREE THAT DIABETIC PATIENTS SHOULD WEAR COMPRESSION STOCKINGS AS THE CONDITION AFFECTS THE CIRCULATORY SYSTEM SO DRAMATICALLY THAT FEET BECOME FAR MORE VULNERABLE THAN THEY WOULD OTHER WISE BE.  BECAUSE OF DECREASED CIRCULATION IN THE LOWER LIMB AND FEET, DIABETICS CAN'T RELY ON THEIR PAIN SENSORS TO ALERT THEM THAT SOMETHING MIGHT BE WRONG.  THEREFORE ANY WOUND OR SKIN IRRITATION OR OTHER FOOT ABNORMALITY HAS THE POTENTIAL TO MUSHROOM INTO A DIRE SITUATION IF NOT CAUGHT EARLY.

DIABETICS SHOULD STRONGLY CONSIDER WEARING COMPRESSION STOCKINGS.  THEY HELP PREVENT SWELLING OF THE FEET.  WITHOUT THE COMPRESSION, EDEMA AND STRETCHING OF THE SKIN CAN HAPPEN, RESULTING IN SKIN TEARS WHICH CAN LEAD TO ULCERATION AND INFECTION.
