Dr. Jacqueline Sutera lists the potential consequences of infections triggered by a pedicure. "These can be very small and benign and treatable with a topical antibiotic or soap. And in worst-case scenarios, especially in the elderly or people with diabetes or poor circulation, this can be limb- and life-threatening, if not treated right away," says Sutera, a spokesperson for the American Podiatric Medical Association.
