As temperatures drop below zero and winds increase above 20 miles per hour, the risk of getting frostbite becomes even more dangerous. "After you have exposure to extreme cold and you notice there's any discoloration or any changes in the texture of your skin, that's our danger zone, that's when we know you've had some damage to the area," said Dr. Stephanie Kastel, ProMedica Physicians Podiatry.

"With frostbite, the tissues are going to be firm, they're going to be discolored typically and as that actually progresses, you end up with these blebs. Blebs kind of look like blisters, that's the damage of what happened 48-72 hours prior; that's when that really starts to show up," says Dr. Kastel.
