DALLAS STAR HOCKEY STAR, TYLER SEGUIN HAS A FRACTURED HEEL

Forward Tyler Seguin has a hairline fracture in his heel and his status for Dallas Stars training camp will be re-evaluated in a week, general manager Jim Nill said Saturday.

"Upon returning to Dallas [on Friday], Tyler Seguin underwent an MRI that detected a hairline fracture in his heel," Nill said.

Seguin sustained the injury playing in a World Cup of Hockey 2016 pretournament game for Team Canada on Sept. 9 against Team USA. Seguin pulled out of the tournament Wednesday and was replaced by Buffalo Sabres forward Ryan O'Reilly.

"He was trying to work his way through it, but he is only 50 to 60 percent with his skating ability," Nill said Wednesday. "With such a short tournament, [Canada] had to make a decision."

The Stars being training camp on Friday.

Seguin finished second on the Stars behind Jamie Benn in points (73) and tied for second in goals (33) with Jason Spezza last season. He missed the final 10 games after sustaining an Achilles tendon injury against the Tampa Bay Lightning on March 17 and played in one of 13 Stanley Cup Pla

yoff games.

''Obviously he's a big part of our team,'' Stars forward Ales Hemsky told The Associated Press in Toronto on Saturday. ''He was injured last year a couple months and the playoffs. ... We still have a lot of good players and they can jump in and not replace him -- nobody can replace [Tyler] -- but we did it last year. He will get healthy, and the season is long, so hopefully he comes back as soon as possible.''

Seguin has 107 goals and 234 points in 223 games for the Stars since they acquired him from the Boston Bruins in a seven-player trade July 4, 2013. He ranks fifth in the NHL goals and fourth in points in that span, and Benn is the only Stars player with more points since the start of the 2013-14 season.
