ATHLETE'S FOOT DISCUSSED BY PODIATRIST

Podiatrist, Dr. Alan Jones states, athletes' foot, that stubborn, itchy fungal infection is most often seen between the toes and is contagious. The infection can result in cracking and peeling skin that may burn. The fungus thrives in damp socks and tight shoes and spreads in warm, moist places, such as public showers and gyms.  Use over-the-counter antifungal treatments daily until the fungus clears, plus another two weeks. Using a three-prong OTC treatment approach works best. I recommend using antifungal lotion on the affected skin, liquid medication on the toe nails, and medicated powder in the shoes. If you have foot fungus that doesn’t improve or worsens after self-treatment, see a podiatrist who may culture the skin to determine if symptoms are caused by athlete’s foot or another skin disorder."
