ANTERIOR TIBIALIS TENDONITIS AND HOW TO TREAT IT

Anterior tibialis tendinitis is a common overuse injury that occurs in individuals who participate in a new activity without letting it occur gradually it typically occurs in individuals who participate in down hill running.

The anterior tibialis muscle is a dorsiflexor and an invertor of the foot, in individuals who have flat feet or those who pronate may have overused this muscle which causes it to ache and be tender. The pain usually occurs on the top of the foot which is where the muscle inserts. Treatment usually includes resting from running and in more serious cases, icing and stretching before activities is recommended. Individuals may also benefit from strengthening their feet with thera-band exercises and daily strengthening should be conducted.
