PODIATRIST DR. BETH JARRETT STATES, "PROBABLY THE BIGGER ISSUE IN TERMS OF INJURIES AND BAREFOOT RUNNING IS THE FACT THAT YOUR BAREFOOT, AND MORE LIKELY TO STEP ON STONES OR GLASS.  I GENERALLY DO NOT RECOMMEND BAREFOOT RUNNING, UNLESS SOMEONE HAD ACCESS TO A SAFE RUNNING ENVIROMENT TO MINIMIZE THE RISKS OF INJURIES FROM UNKNOWN SURFACES.  BAREFOOT RUNNING IS A GOOD TRAINING TOOL TO IMPROVE THE MECHANICS OF RUNNING, BUT SHE DOESN'T RECOMMEND IT FOR LONG DISTANCES.  YOU CAN WORK ON CADENCE, HOW FAST YOUR LEGS ARE TURNING OVER PER MINUTE.  BAREFOOT RUNNERS USE SHORT, CHOPPIER STEPS VERSUS LONGER STRIDES FOR THOSE RUNNING WITH SHOES. I WOULD RECOMMEND BAREFOOT RUNNING FOR TRAINING, BUT NOT FOR DISTANCES BECAUSE WE'VE SEEN JUST AS MANY INJURIES WITH BAREFOOT RUNNING AS WE DO WITH REGULAR SHOES."

PODIATRIST, DR. KHANHMEI WONG STATES, "PROPER FOOT WEAR IS IMPORTANT, BUT STOPS SHORT AT CONDEMNING ALL HEELS.  FOOT PROBLEMS ARE VERY COMPLICATED.  IT'S REALLY IMPORTANT TO CHOOSE THE CORRECT SHOES.  MOST OF THE PATIENTS SHE SEES ARE SEEKING TREATMENT FOR BUNIONS OR PLANTAR FASCIITIS.  BUNIONS - BONY BUMPS AT THE BASE OF THE BIG TOE THAT FORM WHEN ONE TOE PUSHES AGAINST THE NEXT - ARE LARGELY GENETIC, BUT CAN BE MADE WORSE BY IMPROPER FOOT WEAR.  WITH FREQUENT USE OF HIGH HEELS, THE ACHILLES TENDON BECOMES SHORTENED OVER TIME.  THE ELEVATED HEEL CREATES EXTRA PRESSURE AT THE BACK OF THE FOOT, WHILE THE POINTED TOE BOX OFFERS INADEQUATE SPACE AT THE FRONT OF THE FOOT.  THAT CAN LEAD TO BUNIONS AND ARTHRITIC JOINTS."

ACADEMY FOOT AND ORTHOTIC CLINICS NEVER, EVER RECOMMENDS HIGH HEELS AS THEY ARE NOT ONLY BAD FOR YOUR FEET, BUT EVERY JOINT ABOVE INCLUDING YOUR SPINE.  HIGH HEELS ARE A FOOT SPECIALISTS AND CHIROPRACTORS BEST FRIEND IF YOU WANT A BUSY PRACTICE.

AS A RETIRED DOCTOR SPECIALIZING IN CUSTOM ORTHOTICS, I KNOW A FEW THINGS ABOUT MODIFICATIONS.

ONE THING I LEARNED IN OVER 35 YEARS OF PRACTICE IS THAT IF THE PATIENT WAS PROPERLY CASTED, MODIFICATIONS WERE NEVER NEEDED.

OVER 99% OF MY FIRST CASTINGS WERE PERFECT AND NEEDED NO MODIFICATIONS.

CHIROPRACTORS NEED THEIR PATIENTS TO COME BACK TO BE ADJUSTED, CORRECTLY CASTED ORTHOTICS DO NOT.

BEWARE OF ANY FOOT SPECIALIST WHO TELLS YOU TO COME BACK FOR CONSECUTIVE  CORRECTIONS.  THAT ONLY MEANS THAT THEY WERE NOT DONE PROPERLY IN THE FIRST PLACE.

THE EUROPEAN JOURNAL OF ENDOCRINOLOGY TRACED THE RESULTS OF A STUDY WHERE ANTIBIOTIC PRESCRIPTIONS WERE GIVEN TO A MILLION UK PATIENTS.  THERE FINDINGS DID NOT INDICATE THAT ANTIBIOTICS CAUSED TYPE 2 DIABETES, ONLY THAT INFECTIONS MAY BE A WARNING SIGN THAT DIABETES MIGHT BE IMMINENT.

THERE WAS A CORRELATION THAN WHEN ANTIBIOTIC USE WENT UP, TYPE 2 DIABETES WENT UP.  THERE WAS NO LINK WITH ANTI FUNGAL OR ANTIVIRAL DRUGS AND ANTIBIOTICS DID NOT AFFECT THYPE 1 DIABETES.
